Two highchairs in the corner. A tiny mini table with elf-sized chairs. Children are certainly welcome and this is a nice option for hipster parents who want to stop in for a quick breakfast and coffee.
[Note: I do not have children and can’t explain why I often feel the need to include that sort of information. I do get a kick out of young parents who still go out for coffee and have lives.]
Barismo 364 does not have wifi. It’s also difficult to find any plugs here, but if you’re fine with doing work on a notepad (as in, a paper one) or if you’re just meeting up with a friend, seating is available and the coffee is good.
I usually like to associate the coffee shops I feature with a vibe. This place is relatively vibeless. It’s just kind of an under-decorated, basic spot to stop in for good coffee and a bite to eat. Lavender fruit scones, chocolate whole wheat cookies, and a full weekend brunch menu drew me in. The in-house bakery pumps out delicious pastries, while the brunch options leave more to be desired. A tired looking frittata was served with a little pile of potato scraps and a mini bowl of melon (honeydew isn’t okay). Meanwhile, my yogurt parfait and a side of deviled eggs were good in an unremarkable way, each served with an additional bowl of honeydew (with some bits of pineapple and cantaloupe, but largely the classic melon trick). Overall, the food is reminiscent of summer camp.
The baristas are pleasant and helpful, but the service is slow (I’m being generous on this). On a Saturday morning, customers lining up to order brunch before taking their seats slowly bottleneck the line making it a long wait for anyone stopping in for a quick coffee to go. The brunch menu lies on a sheet of paper directly in front of the cash register, requiring you to wait in line, only capable of reading through the meal options once you are standing in front of the cashier. I may have been born in an age when capitalism and consumerism reign, but being raised with a constant inundation of different options hasn’t made me any quicker at choosing. Rather, I need prep time to weigh the pros and cons of each menu item. The set up here does not work for this.
My friend’s iced coffee was forgotten amidst the hubbub of the incoming crowd, but was replaced with a nitro, an offer of penance from the staff.
The space is very open and there is bar seating along the opposite side of the bar area. The other wall is lined with a long bench and tables for seating.
Overall, Barismo 364 is a good place to stop in, but not a necessity when visiting Cambridge.
