A guide to coffee shops by a coffee shop lover

Three Seat Espresso & Barber

Three Seat Espresso & Barber

This is the perfect spot to grab a coffee before J-walking across to Tompkins Square Park, plopping down on a bench and people watching. If the weather doesn’t allow, or you’re feeling puckish, there’s plenty reason to stay in the café and just relax for a bit.

This bright, warm spot is as Australian as you can get in the middle of East Village. Yellow and white everything, combined with large front windows, create a bright atmosphere and temporarily transport you to the Gold Coast (disclaimer: I’ve never been—hear the coffee’s great, but like, what else is there?).

If the coffee doesn’t give enough of a buzz, a barber shop with three seats (please note the name of the coffee shop) runs out of a room situated behind the baristas, for those who need a quick buzz or cut. Otherwise, this shop is perfect for café sitting if you also enjoy: 1. Listening to hot Australians, or 2. Enjoying incredible crumpets.

The draw of meeting interesting new people always looms in the back of my mind when visiting coffee shops. However, unless I was specifically looking to chat up a hot Australian with a body ripped enough to act as the cover of a trashy romance novel, this spot is probably best for just meeting up with a friend or quietly getting some work done. Preferably bring a favorite gal pal (as pictured) so you can both appreciate the “view.” Leave your laptop at home, as they aren’t allowed on weekends.

Two beautiful baristas were working, both with delightful Aussie accents. My friend and I split a savory crumpet and I crumbled. As Australians seem to do, they topped this seasonal breakfast with a healthy dose of avocado. It was scrumptious, and I left the shop with my phone covered in a thin layer of grease (yea, I’m gross). The flat white was done well and it was an overall win.

For those who don’t want a bagel or anyone who needs motivation to start working out, this is a pleasant coffee spot right in the heart of New York. Enjoy!

I have never been to Australia but loved “The Crocodile Hunter” as a kid so I’ll definitely check this place out! Thanks so much for the tip, flatwhite lady 🙂
